are you ever in the middle of saying something or showing someone something and you realize that literally no one cares
I’ve literally stopped talking mid-word in a story and no one has noticed.
three word horror story: The beep test
OKAY SO AT MY FUCKING SCHOOL ITS CALLED THE FUCKING PACER AND THAT JUST SOUNDS FUCKING TERRIFYING ENOUGH BUT THE FUCKING BEEP TEST SOUNDS LIKE A GODDAMN ELEMENTARY GAME BUT FUCK NO THIS IS HELL AND EVIL WRAPPED INSIDE A GYM OF SELF LOATHING AND SWEAT
what the fuck is the beep test
someone please educate the innocent
idk wtf a beep test is but the pacer’s when you have to run lengths in the space between the beeps and the beeps get faster and faster its fucking hell
*war flashbacks to pacers* I ran 81 one day bcuz I wanted to beat the boys and then I threw up and they made me stop
We called them pacers and they really hurt and sucked. They sped up, the beeps sped up and we’d have to run faster and get all sweaty and breathe hard and my side would ache and I can steal hear those echoey squeals of middle schooler’s tennis shoes running across the gym floor.
The inner life has its soft and gentle beauty; an abstract formlessness as well as a subtle charm. I often consider myself as a figure in a foggy painting: faltering lines, insecure distances, and a merging of greys and blacks. An emotion or a mood - a mere wisp of color - is shaded off and made to spread until it becomes one with all that surrounds it.
If your ancestors cut down all the trees, it’s not your fault, but you still don’t live in a forest.
Pam Oliver, a professor in the UW-Madison sociology department, explaining the historical roots of racism in the United States to her undergraduate students (mostly middle-class and White). I try to use this when I teach race now, too, to get past the defensive “but why are you BLAMING ME” reaction. (via cabell)
THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.
To all the white people who say that they shouldn’t have responsibility in racism because they’re ancestors and not them who participated in slavery, think about this!
